Lethbridge Herald (Newspaper), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
Monday, November 20, 1950, page 4.

"Scotland is calling the MacTavishes. The Lord Lyon of Scotland has written a Winnipeg historian in an attempt to find the chief of Clan Tavish in time for a gathering of the chiefs of all Scottish clans in 1951. The last Chief of Clan Tavish on record was William MacTavish, the last governor of the Western Canadian region of Rupertís land."

The Winnipeg historian, was Mrs. Margaret Arnett MacLeod, author of the book The Letters of Letitia Hargrave. Letitia was the daughter of Sheriff Dugald MacTavish at Campbeltown, Kintyre, sister to William MacTavish, Hudson's Bay Company Governor of Assiniboia and Prince Rupert's Land (the last chief on record at Lyon Court, named as the son of Sheriff Dugald), who married James Hargrave of the Hudson's Bay Company.

At Lord Lyon's request, Mrs. MacLeod (while writing the above noted book) found that her research coincided with finding the MacTavish Chiefly line. Mrs. MacLeod's husband, Dr. Alexander MacLeod took over the medical practice of Dr. James MacTavish in Stonewall, Manitoba. Dr. James was the son of Governor William MacTavish, who is mentioned in the Lethbridge Herald as the last known Chief of the MacTavishes.

History makes this all very clear.
